The ANCC MNOY Call for nominations is initiated annually every Spring. The yearly Spring Call is announced via the ANCC Magnet Website (https://www.nursingworld.org/organizational-programs/magnet/) as well as via the Magnet Learning Communities. The 2023 MNOY nomination prompts noted on this page remain in place to be referenced as organizations prepare their nominations for the ensuing year. The nomination portal used to upload a nomination will be activated during the nomination acceptance dates, when announced. The Call for nominations timeframe is six weeks. The American Nurses Credentialing Center invites you to submit a nomination for the thirteenth annual Magnet Nurse of the Year Awards.
The Magnet Nurse of the Year Awards recognize the outstanding contributions of clinical nurses in Magnet® designated organizations. The Awards acknowledge contributions exemplifying excellence in leadership, innovation, and professional risk-taking in the context of each of the five Magnet® Model Components:
- Transformational Leadership
- Structural Empowerment
- Exemplary Professional Practice
- New Knowledge, Innovations & Improvements
- Empirical Outcomes

Eligibility Criteria
- Only one nomination will be accepted from a given Magnet organization regardless of size, setting, or location.
- The nominee must be a clinical nurse defined by the Magnet Program as a registered nurse who spends the majority (≧51%) of his or her time providing direct patient care.
- Only one nomination will be accepted from a given Magnet organization.
- (This includes advanced practice nurses (APRNs) who spend the majority of their time providing direct patient care.
- The clinical nurse is employed and practicing at the Magnet designated organization.
- The nominee may have a range of tenures, hours worked, and locations of employment within the Magnet-designated organization.
- Previous winners and their organizations are excluded from eligibility for 12 months (e.g., a 2022 winner and their organization are not eligible for 2023 but may apply in 2024).

2. Award Attestation
The nominating individual and/or CNO:
- Reads and acknowledges compliance with MNOY Eligibility Criteria
- Describes the nominee's involvement in direct patient care as well as the percentage of the nominees' time spent providing direct patient care in the organization.
The nominating individual and/or CNO attests/warrants that:
- Submitting a nomination constitutes agreement that the nominating individual and CNO endorser agree to be bound by the rules of the Magnet Nurse of the Year Award program.
- That the nominee is employed by a Magnet organization and meets the Magnet definition of a clinical nurse.
- The winner will be present to accept their Award at the ANCC National Magnet Conference ®.
- The winner and nominating individual and/or CNO will attend the Magnet Nurse of the Year reception at the ANCC National Magnet Conference.
3. Magnet® Model Component
Assign the nomination to one of the five Magnet® Model Components.
4. Nomination Title
- Enter the formal title for the nomination, nominator email address, and nominee qualifications.
- Format for online entry Nomination Title: "Nominee's Full Name-Magnet Organization Name-Project/Contribution Title" [Example: Joe A. Doe-Sample Magnet Organization-Nurse Extraordinaire].
5. People
Information must be provided for three (3) people -- the nominator, nominee, and CNO endorser.
6. Documents
The nominator's online submission must include three (3) documents uploaded in .pdf format:
- A narrative essay that is (500 words or less)
- The nominator must
- write the narrative essay on official organization letterhead
- include his or her full contact information-nominator name, credentials, email address, direct phone number, and organiztion address, and
- sign the nomination
- The narrative essay must demonstrate the following:
- The contribution(s) the clinical nurse nominee has made in the context of the identified Magnet Model Component
- Clearly delineate the timeline associated with the contribution(s) made by the clinical nurse nominee
- How the clinical nurse nominee's contribution(s) exemplifies excellence in leadership, innovation, and professional risk-taking in the context of the identified Magnet Model Component
- The resulting nursing impact in the organization, region, nation and/or world.
- The nominator must
- Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) letter of endorsement (250-words-or-less)
- The CNO must write the letter of endorsement on official organization letterhead and must include his or her full contact infromation-CNO name, credentials, email address, direct phone number, and organization address. The CNO must sign the letter of endorsement.
- CNO of the nominating Magnet designated organization endorsement must include:
- The contribution(s) the nurse nominee has made in the designated Magnet Model category
- The resulting nursing impact in the organization, region, nation, and/or world
- Nominee's resume (3-page maximum): Must include his or her:
- full contact information-nominee name, credentials, home address, email address, and direct phone number,
- educational background
- work experience
- professional activities,
- publications, presentations, or projects.
7. Confirmation
You will have a chance to look over the online submission to make sure all is complete.
8. Nomination Process and Deadline
- Nominators must complete and submit nominations through the online submission website.
- The online submission website details all nomination information required and walks nominators through the submission process step-by-step. Nominators will have a chance to look over the submission to make sure all is complete before submitting the nomination.

9. Rules
- Submitting a nomination constitutes agreement that each representative submitting the nomination and their nominee agree to be bound by the rules of the Magnet Nurse of the Year Awards program.
- Previous winners and their organizations are excluded from eligibility for 12 months (e.g., 2022 winner and their organization are not eligible for 2023 but may apply in 2024).
- The nominee must be employed by a Magnet organization and meet the Magnet definition of a clinical nurse.
- The winner will be present to accept his or her Award at the ANCC National Magnet Conference.
- The winner and nominating individual and/or CNO will attend the Magnet Nurse of the Year reception at the ANCC National Magnet Conference®
- The CNO supports the winner's attendance in scripting sessions, read-through, and any on-stage rehearsal scheduled to afford the opportunity to refine, practice, and perfect their speech.
- The Magnet Nurse of the Year Awards Committee will consider only complete and properly submitted nominations and material submitted with or in support thereof.
- Material submitted with or in support of any nomination shall be received on the condition that:
- The Magnet Nurse of the Year Awards Committee shall have persmission to use and display submitted materials in any manner it deems apporpriate and to not return such material or an portion thereof to the nominee or nominators.
- The Magnet Nurse of the Year Awards Committee may make such disclosure of the names of the nominees and of the work disclosed in such material as the committee deems appropriate.
- No claim shall be made and no action shall be brought against the American Nurses Credentialing Center, its board of directors, employees, or members of the Magnet Nurse of the Year Awards committee arising out of the use made of such nomination material or any such disclosure.
- If the Magnet Nurse of the Year Awards Committee does not consider any nominations suitable in a given Magnet Component during a given year, ANCC will not give a Magnet Nurse of the Year Award in the Component.
- The decision of the Magnet Nurse of the Year Awards Committee is final.
10. Award
- The National Magnet Nurse of the Year® award recipients will receive a $1,500.00 stipend to use toward travel and miscellaneous expenses associated with attendance at the ANCC National Magnet Conference®
- One complimentary, full conference registration fee for the 2023 ANCC National Magnet Conference® and up to two guest passes for the Awards session
- Presentation of Award recipients during the ANCC National Magnet Conference
- Recognition during the Magnet Nurse of the Year reception at the ANCC National Magnet Conference
- Professional photos taken at the ANCC National Magnet Conference
- Award announcements on the ANCC website and via local and national press releases
